Geschichte von Schloss und Park Lichtenwalde

- 1280 the knight Heidenreich is mentioned in the records as liege lord.
- The castle has several owners until 1447, among them:
- 1291 Bohemian King Wenzel II, 1336 Margrave of Meißen, 1439 Conrad von Stein and Apel von Vitzthum, the latter bought the property in 1440
- 1447 - 1561 The castle is given to the Harras family as feudal tenure.
- 1450 Duke Wilhelm burnt down the castle. Then, it is reconstructed.
- 1561 The property is transferred to the property of the territorial lord and Lichtenwalde becomes an Electoral district.
- 1562 A large fruit orchard of a size similar to the later Baroque garden is mentioned in the records.
- 1622 - 1623 The palace's chapel is renewed.

- 1694 The royal court of Dresden exchanges the castle against Pillnitz Palace and the von Bünau family becomes the new owner.
- 1719 of the Empire Heinrich Jakob Fleming buys the property.
- 1722 Count of the Empire Christoph Heinrich von Watzdorf buys the castle for 100,000 guilder.
- 1722 The castle is pulled down. Only some small parts are left.
- 1722 - 1726 A three-wing Baroque palace is built. Unfortunately, the architect is not known.
- 1729 Christoph Heinrich von Watzdorf dies.
- Around 1729 The Belvedere was turned into a tea house.
- 1730 - 1737 His son Friedrich Carl von Watzdorf has the garden planted.

- 1764 He dies childless. Therefore, the property is transferred to his wife Countess of the Empire Henriette Sophia Vitzthum von Eckstädt.
- 1767 The garden is completed with the "Maple Part" and the "New Part".
- 1767 F.C. Luther draws a map of the park.
- 1772 The brothers of the Countess of the Empire inherit the Baroque property.
- Since 1800 the garden has been redesigned once in a while. An English garden is planted outside the park.
- 1839 The park is open for visitors on some days for the first time.

- 1 May 1905 The roof structure and the upper floor are destroyed by fire. The middle garden is also severely damaged.
- 1905 - 1908 The palace is rebuilt with small modifications (conservatory, by the architect of the court of Dresden Frölich).

- 1945 The possessions of the Vitzthum von Eckstädt familiy are seized.
- 1948 - 1996 The palace is used as sanatorium, construction worker's hostel and training centre.
- Since 1990 the park has been renovated, repaired and restored including numerous fountains in the park and the Count's Cemetery.
- 1997 The renovation of the park is finished.
- 1998 The "Schneckengang" ("Spiral") and "Sieben Künste" ("Seven Arts") projects in the Baroque garden are awarded in the "Reconstructed Historical Gardens and Parks" category of the "Gardens of the City 1997/98" competition hosted by the Saxon State Ministry of Environment and Agriculture.
- 1999 The administration of the palace is included in the real estate administration of the Saxon State Office for Finances.
